Life in a Time of Flux

I think I can stop it
hold it inside a bell jar,
her childhood, caught
like a hunted fox
with staring glass eyes.
I think it will always be summer,
she will always like raspberry ripple,
will not outgrow her first boyfriend I adored,
wiped his feet,
gave her uncomplicated kisses.
But the fox moves
writhes and leaps
shatters the jar
I pick up the shards
blood drips into my emptying nest,
lick the cut,
accept life is a time of flux
